Now we all know New York is expensive. For example, I was in the market today buying groceries, and I saw a box of cereal for $6.50. Need I say more?
This week, I was blessed to find a few good girls to room with. It's impossible to afford a 1-bedroom in New York, and other than myself, I know of NO homeless girls in town looking for apartments. Thankfully, there's a wonderful little website called Craigslist... and I was able to connect with two girls in the same situation as me. Natalie just moved to New York from Wisconsin, and Mili moved from South Carolina. The strange thing is...Mili has the exact same birthday as me...same year and everything!
We started scouring the streets for 3-bedrooms to see what we could find...and we found the deal of the century...maybe even the millenium. A 3-bedroom, 2 floor apartment in Chelsea....one of the best neighborhoods in Manhattan! The rent is unbelievable...there is laundry IN THE BUILDING, and one of the actors from 'Sex and the City' lives in the building (Charlotte's gay friend Anthony). After completely cleaning out our wallets today, it's finally OURS! We move in Tuesday.
The funny thing is... we spent two whole days dealing with an incredibly stubborn landlord (Natalie even broke down sobbing on the subway because of the stress...and I'm pretty sure I started crying in the corner of a hotel lobby after throwing back 2 cups of coffee on an empty stomach). But because of all the hurdles that we had to jump through together, we developed a quick bond of friendship. Looking back, I think that if the process had been a breeze, I would have moved into an apartment with two strangers. But now I feel as if I'm moving into an apartment with two friends.
Funny how things happen. As they say, 'Every cloud has a silver lining.'
So as of Tuesday, my new address is:
400 W. 25th St., #1F
New York, NY 10001
I have only God to thank. He has orchestrated my new chapter in New York so beautifully, and I'm excited to share it with all of you! Please come visit very soon!
Love,
LAUREN
